A biological starting point
In the standard genetic code, the AUG codon specifies methionine and commonly serves as the translation initiation signal. In bacteria, the initiating amino acid is a modified form, formylmethionine. Protein processing may later remove the initial residue.
A name about beginnings
We chose Methionine as an expression of our perspective: start with biology, understand the mechanism, and build from a careful first question. It is a metaphor for how we want discovery to begin, rather than a claim that our work is limited to one amino acid.
